Standard for Measurement and Presentation of Specifications for Machine Vision Sensors and Cameras

The Standard is elaborated by a consortium of the Industry leading Sensor and Camera manufacturers, Distributers and component customers. The Standard is organized in a Modular Approach. The first Module was officially released by the working group Member companies in August 2005 and is now available for download.

EMVA 1288 Standard Adds Linearity Module
- EMVA 1288 Standard facilitates comparison of camera and image sensor specifications and assessment of their performance
- New module on linearity widens the scope of the EMVA 1288 Standard
EMVA has offizialized the new release of its Standard 1288 for Measurement and Characterization of Image Sensors. It contains an additional module for measurement and characterization of linearity and linearity errors. The linearity module was decided to be an optional module, which the manufacturer can choose to include or not include in the published data. In contrast, module 1, comprising basic information, sensitivity, noise, and SNR (signal-to-noise-ratio) related parameters is compulsory and has to be applied for all components characterized and published according to the standard.
The introduction of compulsory and optional modules gives the manufacturers wider freedom to optimize datasheets according to the application fields of their products while the unified methodology and comparability of the specification parameters is maintained.
Martin Wäny, chair of the EMVA Standard working group 1288, will give a presentation on "Measurement and characterization according to the EMVA 1288 Standard" at the VISION Show, Stuttgart, on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 from 16:00 hrs - 16:30 hrs.
